Re-work

Welcome to project Re-work. Now, don't get me wrong I love knitting, sewing and making almost anything and everything. But there's nothing I love more than re-working furniture. I can't help myself. Give me an old chest of draws and I'll be happy for hours, if not days. Here is a small selection of my re-worked projects so far. I hope you love them as much as I do!

Quick & Easy Corner/Side Table Re-work
A few years back D and I decided to buy a ton of old antique furniture and find cool ways to re-work them to match our style. We started off with quick and simple pieces that we could update in just a few minutes (as we had very little free time back then). We bought two occasional tables to dot around our flat - one in the hallway for keys and bags, and the other in the living room to keep uni work and bits and bobs (and the burger phone of course!).
We bought both pieces because they had removable glass. We figured we could add some cool paper underneath to create an entirely new look for both tables. So we cleaned our tables (furniture polish and glass clearer) and headed off to Paperchase to pick up some interesting paper.

The Stag Corner Table
At the time, D and I had a bird and stag theme going on, so we decided on this fab stag head multi-coloured print (christmas wrapping paper).

The Globe Occasional Table
Paperchase (at the time) had an amazing collection of old map prints, and we loved this vintage-style map of the world. It was the perfect fit, looked great and it was also a cool map that we could look at.
Making these super simple changes to these tables took literally minutes, but they completely changed their look. We love them and still use them every day.

The Gold Chair
I've developed a new problem... with spray paint.
I LOVE it! It's amazing. I can't stop myself. Picture frames, jam jar lids, furniture... you name it, I'll spray it. My favourite spray paint project to date is THE GOLD CHAIR.

This chairs life started out as a boring wood and beige plastic chair (I borrowed it from a restaurant I once worked in - I'm gonna take it back one day... I promise). I use the chair as an office chair, as it's light, comfy and the perfect height for my desk. But the beige just didn't cut it. So out came the spray paint, and what a transformation.

I used one large gold metallic spray paint can from Wilkinson's - it cost around £5 (I think). As I don't have a garden, I sprayed at my folks house (they weren't too impressed with golden grass - whoops). It only took about 15 minutes to cover the entire chair evenly (there were a few drips I needed to wipe off and re-spray, so beware of spraying too close to the chair), and another 10/15 minutes to dry. All in all this was a super simple project that transformed a boring chair into an amazing golden throne.

The Book Book Case

What you'll need:
An old/antique book shelf (any shape or size will work), some old books (only one medium sized paperback was used for this project), a large bottle of PVA glue and a good quality paintbrush.
How to make the Book Book Shelf:
Step 1 - remove the front, back and spine from your paperback book.
Step 2 - Liberally apply PVA to your book case and randomly attach the pages to the bookcase (this will take a while).
Step 3 - Once your bookcase is completely covered liberally apply a coat of PVA all over the bookcase.
Step 4 - Allow the bookcase to fully dry. Once dried, you may find that there are some pages that aren't fully covered in glue/stuck down. Simply add more glue until it's all sealed and stuck.
